The Blacksmiths Tale or Once Upon a Flower, by Dana Phillips. This modern/medieval fantasy for children (of all ages) features illustrations by Sheila Waters, and was the only book honored for both its interior and cover design in last years competition sponsored by the Washington Book Publishers association.

A work of substantial scholarship, this is a fascinating narrative by the late Alexander
Boyd Hawes, an adoptive Rhode Islander. The book has been endorsed by the Rhode
Island Historical Society. It received nothing but favorable reviews, and has been honored
with awards from both the premier midatlantic publishers association and a scholarly

design honors in the Washington Book Publishers' Book Design and Effectiveness
